Wanna Defend the West?

Then get busy doing what this couple is doing - having babies! While Western society is cutting off its posterity by birth control (hat tip at least in part to the Reformers on this one) and literally killing itself off by abortion, the rest of the world - (most importantly the Islamic nations) are growing by astronomical rates.

So while the average self centered-high powered business wife-metrosexual husband-bound to be divorced in 3.5 years-American couple is busy planning for early retirement without the hassle of worrying about kids (at least not yet), this couple just had baby number 17!

"We are just so grateful to God for another gift from him," said Jim Bob Duggar, 42, a former state representative. "We are just so thankful to him that everything went just very well."
Great to hear a positive attitude about kids for a change. Typically Americans view kids as burdens. How sad. God bless this couple.

I agree 100%. If you read Mark Steyn's America Alone, the alarming statistics are shocking. The U.S. population replacement rate is 2.1 children for every woman, which is at least where it should be. Europe varies, but collectively they are well below replacement rate. By numbers alone most experts estimate that Europe will be mostly Islamic by the end of the century or even earlier. It is not hyperbole to say that abortion and contraception, along with other socialist utopia fantasies, are killing Europe. You're right. Let's continue to do everything we can here to not follow down that same broad road.

I should add that you can't legislate birth rates. You can't order women to bear children, although money has been an incentive for welfare recepients to have more children out of wedlock for decades. Hopefully that is changing. And in Europe, where it is probably too late, some governments are giving cash and tax incentives for its citizens to procreate. Ultimately, as I said, the "changing hearts and minds" approach has to come into play. Pray for our world.

You're right about that. I don't think legislation is the answer. I mean I think it's part of the answer - IE stopping abortion (and we both know that making it illegal wont stop the evil but it certainly would deter it and also deter promiscuity if only a little).

I also agree that ultimately, our problem lies not in legislation or failure thereof but in our own hearts & minds. These problems are all because of our fallen nature.

Society can improve though. Right now our society is geared towards feeding our sin nature - not helping it. Unfortunately, it is geared so in the worst way for women. They have no social incentive to do the right thing or to be the right kind of person, and it's tearing our society apart (morally).

I think we can all agree that some radical social changes need to take place in order to address the problem.

Maybe it's just a pipe dream of mine, but I'm hoping the generation that is transitioning into power wont be as liberal as those who smoked too much you know what during the 60s and completely fried their ability to reason.

To that end, don't forget "The Roe Effect." It's a genuine, measured phenomenon which says this:

1) To a high degree, as we grow up, we adopt the politics of our parents.

2) Most people who have abortions are liberals.

3) More and more people growing up today and in the generations to come have moderate to conservative parents.

4) Most of the people growing up today and in the generations to come are moderate to conservative themselves.

So years from now, with liberals all but extinct, who's going to be having all these abortions?

I hope you're right. Every time I feel like things are going the right way then I hear something else that makes me wonder if we are or not.

We'll all have to continue to join in prayer over this and all the other issues we face.

17. Thats's incredible. I was just speaking to my Abuela last night, she is one of 10 and her mom was one of 14. I hope to one day have as many as the Good Lord is willing to grant me.

a silver lining to Pilgrim's #2--
Most people who have abortions are liberals.

Maybe they'll weed themselves out.
