Matthew 16:18 & The Scholarly Consensus

Regula Fide has a concise yet potent post on the scholarly consensus regarding Matthew 16:18 which I would highly recommend to anyone who isn't already familiar with it.

I don't know where to reply to you ... I suspect JP's blog is off-limits ...

The google book page displayed for me from Amy-Jill Levine's book.

So, your issue with Fr. Brown is that he says things like:

"it remains more important to be baptized than to be ordained, more important to be a Christian than to be a priest, bishop or pope."

Or ... is there some other issue?

IOW, why did you refer me to this page in this book?

Please tell me your concern. I am interested. Thank you.

Oops. You caught me red handed (I'm not being sarcastic). I didn't read the footnotes.

I don't know his view on WE, apparently here it looks like he's against it if I had read it more carefully (although I did stop short of claiming he supported it in my previous post). I should have read more carefully.

I don't really know much of the rest of his theology but I do hate his scholarship as I demonstrated here in this post.
